The pre-enrollment period for the academic year 2021-2022 of the Master in Translational Biomedical Research of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) will be open from January 11 to September 5 2022, or until the available places are over. This will be the 9th edition of this official master's degree, which has already established itself as one of the benchmarks in health research in Spain.

More than 300 students interested in acquiring knowledge and skills that will allow them to dedicate themselves to research aimed at finding solutions to people's health problems have already passed through VHIR's Master. The Master is oriented to the research career, gives access to the PhD program and offers students the possibility to choose the area of biomedicine in which they want to specialize and develop their training. The most distinctive feature of this master's degree is that it is entirely taught in a third level Health Research Institute, by basic researchers, clinicians and physicians who are in constant contact with the hospital's patients. The location of VHIR within the Vall d'Hebron Campus confers the ideal environment to carry out translational biomedical research, always having the patient as first and last objective.

During 2018, the Master obtained the favorable accreditation of the University Quality Agency (UQA), revalidating the initial verification of the degree and the concession to continue teaching the studies for the next four years. The VHIR obtained a rating of "progress versus excellence is achieved" in four of the six quality standards that are evaluated in the monitoring and accreditation processes of the degrees. In the evaluation report of the center, the External Evaluation Committee of the UQA wanted to positively highlight, as main strengths of the degree: the high level of the profile of the Master's students, the involvement of the academic coordinators, the research excellence of the teaching staff, the proximity between the Research Institute and the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, the tutoring and support systems for students and the good integration of students to the research groups of VHIR, as well as the high level of training of the Master's Thesis of the students who complete their studies.

What aspects do students value the most?

From the satisfaction surveys carried out among the alumni, it appears that the most valued aspect by the students of the master's degree is the extensive period of external internships and the Master's Thesis, since they allow them to join a research laboratory and, in some cases, to continue their doctoral studies. Most of the students consider that the degree has given them opportunities to access the research and/or professional community and that the training received has allowed them to improve their personal and professional skills. The students' satisfaction with the tutoring system and the accessibility to meet with academic coordinators, faculty, academic tutors and internship directors also stands out positively.

Pre-registration calendar

Candidates who wish to apply for admission to the master's degree next year will have to formalize the pre-enrollment process online. The calendar for the resolution of admission applications will be as follows:

• 1st Period: Applications received between January 11th and April 1st. The resolution is scheduled between April 25th and 29th, 2022. Admitted students will have to confirm their place reservation before June 31st, 2022.
• 2nd Period: Applications received between April 2nd and June 13th. The resolution is expected between July 4th and 6th, 2022. Admitted students will have to confirm their place reservation before July 20th, 2022.
• 3rd Period: Applications received between June 14th and September 5th. The resolution is expected between September 12th and 13th, 2022. Admitted students will go directly to enrollment to confirm their place.

In case the available places are sold out in one of the established resolution periods, the pre-enrollment will be automatically closed, and subsequent periods will not be opened.
