The report includes the centre's most relevant data and scientific and institutional results during the year.

The Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) has published its 2025 Annual Report, providing an overview of the institution’s main scientific and organisational achievements over the past year. Once again presented in a digital format, this year’s report features a design inspired by biomedical research and innovation, reflecting the institute’s core mission.

The Annual Report opens with an editorial by Dr Begoña Benito, Director of VHIR, who highlights the institution’s key milestones throughout 2025.

The report presents the most relevant figures on VHIR’s activity during the year, including scientific output, clinical trials, human resources, innovation, finance, and the work of the research support units. Among the highlights are more than 1,600 scientific publications, with 33.37% published in first-decile journals. During 2025, VHIR secured 197 new competitive grants, both national and international, to support research projects and fund research personnel. In the field of clinical research, 244 new studies were launched, bringing the total number of active studies to 1,088. The VHIR’s new scientific structure, organised into areas, COREs and programmes, to foster collaboration among research groups, is also introduced.

The report also includes dedicated sections exploring some of the institution’s major achievements in greater depth. It reviews the completion of the 2021–2025 Strategic Plan and the launch of NEUROAGE, a network coordinated by Vall d’Hebron to accelerate the impact of research on ageing and neurodegenerative diseases. In addition, the report highlights the main actions carried out under the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) and presents the year's achievements of the Paediatric and Perinatal Research Hub. In addition, there are five videos showcasing the most outstanding scientific publications of the year, one for each CORE.

The report also features an overview of the activities of VHIR’s research groups, organised according to their respective research areas.

Finally, the Annual Report includes a summary of the institution’s most significant scientific and organisational news throughout 2025.
