A work of resident nurses at the paediatric nursing of the Mother and Child Hospital of Vall d'hebron, won the award for best communication at the 37th National Congress of the http://bit.ly/1sAADHn National Association of Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing (ANECIPN), held in Avila on the 18th, 19th and 20th of May. The prize was awarded by the Council of Professional Associations of Nursing Graduates of Castilla y León. The award-winning study, "Study of the incidence and prevalence of pressure ulcers in patients admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (UCIP-N) of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital", has been the result of the work of six second-year residents of paediatric nursing, Javier Gutiérrez, María Aparicio, Julia de Frutos, Cristina Sunyer, Anna Valenzuela and María Velasco. The study was born from the need to have updated data about the incidence and the prevalence of pressure ulcers in patients of Neonatology, although for their immaturity they are a group with a high risk of developing it. For this reason, during 4 months an observational prospective study of longitudinal shape was carried out, with the aim of getting to know the severity of these injuries, their duration and their link to therapeutic and diagnostic devices. The data obtained show that the Neonatology Service at Vall d'hebron presents data of incidence and prevalence in pressure ulcers in the national and international media. At the same time, they allow you to have a solid foundation for future actions aimed at the improvement of the quality of care and neonatal critical patients healing, and the creation of specific protocols.
