29/02/2012 Second course of basic foundations in mechanical ventilation 29/02/2012 On March 1, 2 and 3 at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (HUVH) has been celebrated the second edition of the course of basic foundations in mechanical ventilation (Ventilung), organized by the group of clinical research, innovation in the pneumonia & sepsis (CRIPS) at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), and directed by Dr. Jordi Rello, chief of CRIPS, Dr. Ferran Morell, chief of the pneumology group at VHIR, and Dr. Joaquim Gea, chief of the pneuomology service at Hospital del Mar.During three days have taken place three meetings of theoretical classes and a discussion of practical cases, besides the closing conference, the examination and 7 practical workshops. The course began with the inauguration on March 1, with the participation of the coordinators of the course, Dr. Joan Ramon Masclans and Dr. Oriol Roca, from CRIPS and of the pneumology group at VHIR respectively, besides Dr. Jaume Roigé, health care director of HUVH, and the teaching director, Dr. Maria Jose Cerqueira.On March 1 there were two meetings on weaning of Dr. Salvatore Maggiore, director of Resuscitation and Intensive Therapy of the Policlinic Gemelli of Rome, who also is Deputy Editor of the Intensive Care Medicine (official magazine of the European Intensive Society). On the 3rd of March the closing conference, by Dr. Andres Esteban, chief of service of Intensive Medicine of the University Hospital of Getafe and the only Spanish representative in the group that has re-defined SDRA and recently rewarded with the Big Cross of the Health of the Community of Madrid.In the course have participated 150 students coming from 10 hospitals. 45 of them are residents of the different specialities and hospitals, and also there are nurses, as well as students of the master of respiratory pathology UAB-UPF and of the degree of Medicine and of veterinary of the UAB. The students come from 6 different specialities that correspond to 9 services or units of the different hospitals of origin. The course counts with the collaboration of 8 companies that helped with the scholarship of some inscriptions and also collaborate in the workshops of practical simulation.
