The grant, sponsored by Laboratorios Juste S. A. Q. F., is endowed with 6,000 euros that will fund the project entitled 'Functional study of migraine using PET-FDG'.The aim of Dr. Torres is to determine, using cerebral PET-FDG, whether metabolic abnormalities are correlated with the chronification of migraine. Patients with this disease use to present abnormalities in the brain metabolism resulting from the changes that take place in the nociceptive system functionality. These differences could be correlated with the frequency of the attacks and the number of days with migraine or headache."Our hypothesis is that patients with chronic migraine present a different brain metabolism than patients with episodic migraine", reports Dr. Torres. By using PET-FDG, VHIR researchers expect to identify the metabolic alterations which are correlated with the mechanism of chronification, as well as to establish in how many days the significant changes in the brain metabolism appear. The grant is given each year by the SEN to a neurologist of the society who has already finished the medical training in the previous 5 years, in order to fund a well structured and disaggregated research project in the field of headache.
