The Spanish Society of Probiotics and Prebiotics is created with leadership of VHIR’s researchers

On September 21 was created the Spanish Society for Probiotics and Prebiotics (SEPyP), at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, host of the new entity. The society will be chaired by Dr. Francisco Guarner, and in its board also will be Dr. Fernando Azpiroz, member and responsable respectively of the digestive physiology and pathophysiology group at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). SEPyP aims to make possible a forum that helps to know what is being investigated in public and private entities to establish synergies that contribute to the knowledge of probiotics and prebiotics. One of the features and advantages of the new group is "the multidisciplinary of its scientists members, as it has accommodated many different professional fields, as clinicians from different specialties, basic researchers, technicians and staff of R & D + i companies”, said Dr. Guarner.The newly created society already has more than 150 scientific partners, and is backed by the country's major companies such as Danone, Numil Nutrición, Casen-Fleet, Beneo-Orafti, Ysonut, Italfarmaco, Puleva Food, Biosearch, Mead Johnson Nutrition, Salvat, Zambon and Dhu Ibéric. At the signing of the statutes of the new society were present Constituent Board members, supporters of this exciting initiative, el Dr. Francisco Guarner, Dr. Ascensión Marcos, Dr. Teresa Requena, Dr. Evaristo Suárez, Dr. Fernando Azpiroz, Dr. Abelardo Margolles, Dr. Mónica de la Fuente, Dr. Gaspar Pérez, Dr. Guillermo Álvarez and Dr. Juan Miguel Rodríguez.SEPyP’s first activity is the celebration of the 3rd Workshop of Probiotics, Prebiotics and Health: Scientific Evidence, to be held on 15 and December 16 in Barcelona. The workshop program will focus primarily on the presentation of original research on topics of immunonutrition, gastroenterology, pediatrics, microbiology or veterinary medicine.
