Pneumonia is recognized as one of the most important causes of acquired infection in intensive care units (ICU). Therefore, prevention is an important aspect in the care of critically ill patients, which has led in recent years to prevent and try to lower VAP by the publication of several evidence-based guidelines to help health professionals, among them those of Dodek et al and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
