VHIR researchers scheduled a special day of football and workshops

"http://www.hortaesportiva.cat/" Horta Esportiva’s facilities in Barcelona hosted on Sunday a special day of football and workshops related to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The aim of the initiative ‘Un gol per la recerca’ (a goal for research) was to raise awareness among youth and families of the need to adopt healthy habits to live with this syndrome, and to strengthen research in this field. Dr. Javier Santos and Dr. Maria Vicario lead the research line in IBS in the Physiology and Pathophysiology of the Digestive Tract group at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR). They are pioneers in this area and work closely with international groups to advance towards new treatments. "Research doesn’t progress as slowly as people might think, 5 years ago we didn’t have any therapeutic solution for this syndrome, but now we do have some, and there are a lot of studies which will promote in the future the onset of new treatments", reports Dr. Santos, who highlights the need to involve society in the research of this disorder, which affects more than 5 million people in Spain. On Sunday morning, VHIR researchers Maria Vicario, Cristina Frías, Ana González and Eloísa Salvo offered a workshop to discover how bacteria grow in the mouth after eating. There was another workshop on Grinberg’s Method and a third one on practical applications of manual therapies, as well as a talk about neuropedagogy of pain. The first team of Horta also participated with the initiative, together with his rival, Andorra. The match ended 2-2. The activities have been organized by VHIR and Horta Esportiva, with the collaboration of the "http://www.aesii.es/" Spanish Association of Patients with IBS.
