More than 130 professionals participated in the IX edition of the Catalan Conference of International Health and Tropical Medicine held at the Casa del Mar in Barcelona on May 13

More than 130 professionals participated in the IX edition of the Catalan Conference of International Health and Tropical Medicine held at the Casa del Mar in Barcelona on May 13 and organized by researchers from thehttp://en.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186953&t=Malalties%20Infeccioses" group of Infectious Diseases at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), physicians from the Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus and the International Health Program at the Catalan Institute of Health (PROSICS).During the day the professionals who work and investigate in the field of international health and tropical medicine participated in presentations and round tables in order to share information on current issues related to their specialty. More specifically, professionals discussed about the refugee crisis in Europe or preventive measures to avoid Zika virus, among other issues.Catalan Conference on International Health and Tropical Medicine began in 2008 and it is framed as a scientific activity in the International Health Program at the Catalan Institute of Health -PROSICS-. Its main objectives are to facilitate communication between professionals, bring experience and knowledge to improve programs, centres and organizations dedicated to global health and promote the development and dissemination of rigorous research.Annually, international health units of ICS made 30,000 visits of travelling assistance and dispense more than 60,000 vaccines. The Infectious Diseases group at the VHIR, led by Dr. Benito Almirante, is specialized in international diseases such as Chagas, malaria and tuberculosis. font8
