Three VHIR researchers receive the Excellence Award conferred by the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona

Three heads of research groups at VHIR have received the awards conferred by the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona in recognition of a track record based on commitment, integrity and excellence.

This year, the Official College of Physicians of Barcelona (CoMB) has recognized 51 doctors and four healthcare teams from the Barcelona area that have stood out for excellence and quality in their professional activity with the Professional Excellence Awards. Among them, there are three VHIR researchers and a physician from Vall d'Hebron.In the category of Hospital Care, the award went to Dr. Elena Carreras, head of the Fetal Maternal Medicine Research Group at VHIR, coordinator of Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Genetics Area at VHIR, Head of Obstetrics and Reproductive Gynecology at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and responsible for the Spina Bifida Transversal Research Programme and for Patient Safety at Vall d'Hebron, President of the Catalan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Associate Professor of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 2014, she was chosen as the best Spanish gynecologist according to Forbes magazine.In the category of Biomedical Research, the award was given to Dr. Rafael Simó, head of the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Group at VHIR and Head of Section at the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, President of the EASDec, the Diabetes Eye Complications Study Group within the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD).Dr. Marco Inzitari is the head of the research group on Aging, Fragility and Transitions in Barcelona at VHIR and a specialist in geriatrics. He has been awarded in the Primary Care category.Dr. Josep Martí, who has received the award in the category of Humanities, Cooperation and Management, is a specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at the Vall d'Hebron Traumatology, Rehabilitation and Burns Hospital.The Professional Excellence Awards have been granted annually since 2004 according to the criteria of the jury constituted by renowned doctors. They are awarded by the medical profession to the professionals and healthcare teams in recognition of their outstanding track record in the exercise of their activity and of the enhancement of the values that make up medical professionalism. These CoMB awards value trajectories based on honesty, commitment, altruism, integrity, good work and excellence.The CoMB awards professionals in six different areas: hospital care, primary care, other healthcare areas, biomedical research, medical education and, finally, humanities, cooperation and management.
