08/03/2021 Today, we celebrate the International Day of Women 08/03/2021 We review the numbers of women working at the VHIR. The VHIR currently employs 1,362 people, of whom 795, or 58%, are women. Today we celebrate International Women's Day knowing that the Women In Science program has already taken the first steps and reviewing the numbers of women working at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) where the 72% of the staff is feminine.Between the structure staff and researchers, and research support staff, we see that the percentage is very similar. In terms of structure, 71% of the staff is female, 127 women and 53 men. Among the staff dedicated to research and supporting research we find 388 women and 147 men, which represents a female share of 73%.However, if we analyze positions of greater responsibility, that is, leading researchers, research group leaders or area coordinators, the percentage of women begins to decline. This year, the percentage of women leading researchers, that is, leading research projects, has been equal to that of men. Right now, 46% of IPs are women, 140 compared to 167 men.In terms of research group leaders, of the 62 group leaders out there, 14 are women. And only two women are area coordinators (there are 8 research areas).Another significant figure is the percentage of young female staff, which reflects the VHIR's desire to attract and enhance female talent both in the field of pre-doctoral training and throughout the research career, as well as in the innovation units, competitive projects, etc. In fact, according to 2019 data, 45% of staff were 40 years old or younger.Gender equity has always been a priority for the VHIR and since 2011 has had an Equality Plan to ensure equal conditions and opportunities for women and men. We are continuously working for the integration of women in decision-making committees and management positions as well as to improve family reconciliation policy. In recent months, together with the IRBLleida, the Women in Science program has been launched. One of the first joint activities carried out within the framework of this initiative has been the screening of the documentary "Picture a Scientist" with on the occasion of the 11F Women's and Girls' Day in Science or the exhibition that can be visited in the lobby of the Children's and Women's Hospital until 26 April.
