The investigators Josep Quer and Francisco Rodríguez-Frías organize for third consecutive year the course "Virus, a world in continuous emergency"

The VHIR investigators, Dr. Josep Quer and Dr. Francisco Rodríguez-Frías, of the Hepatic Diseases group of Vall d'Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), organize from the 15th of March the course "Virus, a world in continuous emergency" in the frame work of the http://professorsiciencia.cat/curs/els-virus-un-mon-en-continua-emergencia" program Professors i Ciència of the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera.VHIR participates for third consecutive year in this program of training for secondary teachers who will obtain the resources about this field to subsequently communicate to their pupils and stimulate their interest in science. In the course, the investigators will introduce the main concepts of virology using games, film material and didactic and practice material. After the course, the teachers will have the knowledge and tools to transfer to the classroom the information about these viral diseases and give tools to their pupils to foster their critical thinking about the information they receive from the media and on the social networks. The course -of 15 hours distributed in four sessions- offers also the possibility to do a visit to the center with a group of pupils during the academic year, assess related to the course during the current year and specific assess for the research works. The majority of emergent infectious diseases are viral. An example is the disease caused by the Zika virus, displayed in the covers of the media and which have been the reason of many hours of conversation, in the last months. However, with the data in the media, we do not always have enough information to understand what these diseases are and how they are transmitted, aspects about the investigators intend to shed light on.
