Two schools in Barcelona raise money to fund research projects

The money raised by the students of the Sant Bonaventura school will be used for the VHIR predoctoral scholarship program, and the money raised by the Túrbula school will be used for research on childhood cancer

More and more institutions and schools through different initiatives raise money to donate to Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR). This is the case of these two educational centres:Sant Bonaventura SchoolThe students of the Sant Bonaventura school in Vilanova i la Geltrú have donated 600 euros to VHIR thanks to the entrepreneurship school project.The children, during the whole course, have done various activities to raise funds: Snacks, festivals with theatrical and musical performances, sale of artisan products made by students in the market, etc.After completing activities, the students decided to make a donation to the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute. Specifically, the donation will be used for the VHIR predoctoral scholarship program.Predoctoral researcher Gisela Ruiz and Dr. Adaris López from the research group CIBBIM-Nanomedicine Diagnostics Nanotools went to the Sant Bonaventura school to explain to the children their work within the Vall Hebron Research Institute.Túrbula SchoolThe children of 5th grade in the school of Sant Adrià de Besòs have participated in a campaign to sell handicrafts in the municipality market to raise money for research on childhood cancer.Dr. Josep Roma and Dr. Miquel Segura of the Research Group on Translational Cancer in Childhood and Adolescence of VHIR went to the centre to make a presentation about their projects to the students in the school. It was attended by more than 150 students between 10 and 16 years old.The solidarity project started with an initiative of the Area of Economic Promotion of the Sant Adrià de Besòs Town Hall to create a cooperative in a school class, an opportunity that has allowed children to know more about what it is to be supportive.
