Vall d’Hebron against gender-based violence

25/11/2021

The professionals and patients of Vall d’Hebron painted their hands for a mural for 25N, the international day against gender-based violence.

Today, 25 November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Gender-based violence is the most severe manifestation of the inequality existing in our society towards women, a severe problem for public health and a violation of human rights.

Throughout the day, the professionals and patients at Vall d’Hebron have been able to participate in an action to raise awareness that we have carried out at Vall d’Hebron. Specifically, a mural was set up in the lift lobby of the General Hospital (ground floor) so that people could paint their hand in purple and write a message related to 25N.

Vall d’Hebron has a Transversal Gender-Based Violence Committee

The awareness raising and commitment of the professional teams at the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital who provide care for the victims of gender-based violence has led to the creation of the Transversal Gender-Based Violence Committee, a multidisciplinary body specialising in tackling situations of gender-based violence. Its objectives are to:

  • Establish multidisciplinary and unified action procedures in the care process for victims of gender-based violence
  • Ensure the care, protection and non-secondary victimisation of the woman whilst receiving care at our hospital
  • Provide training and awareness raising programmes relating to gender-based violence to all professionals in order to progress towards more efficient care models from a biopsychosocial perspective.
