16/09/2016 Vall d'Hebron and General Electric, leaders in paediatric echocardiography 16/09/2016 The Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus and the American company General Electric have collaborated in the clinical assessment and the development of Vivid &trade, iq, a new equipment for the realization of next-generation echocardiographies for patients with heart diseases in the paediatric age. Cos The Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus and the American company General Electric have collaborated in the clinical assessment and the development of Vivid &trade, iq, a new equipment for the realization of next-generation echocardiographies for patients with heart diseases in the paediatric age. Cos This is a pioneering project in this field, as the Vivid iq combines the latest technology to get the highest diagnostic quality, in a portable piece of equipment, and with a new innovative design with a full touch screen. This achievement has been possible thanks to the commitment of collaboration between the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, through its http://bit.ly/WpvrCV" Paediatric Cardiology Service, the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), and the http://invent.ge/2ctkAou" General Electric Healthcare company, a world leader in cardiac image. The agreement and the confidence of the American company have confirmed the Catalan centre as one of the leaders in the field of diagnostic imaging within the field of congenital cardiopathies. Cos The validation of the equipment has lasted 6 months, in which the joint work of the whole team of Paediatric Cardiology and the technicians of the company, have collaborated in the development of the new piece of equipment taking a big step forward in the diagnostic image quality compared to the existing equipment in the market. In total, the validation tests have been carried out in more than 150 children with heart diseases, who have benefited from the high quality image of the new equipment. Cos The Vivid &trade, iq weighs only 4.5 kg, which has allowed the professionals use it both in outpatient clinics, as well as in the cardiac surgery operating room, on the hemodynamics and electrophysiology rooms, and in the paediatric and neonatal intensive care units, always next to the patient. At the same time, it offers a simple interface, which facilitates its use. Only two European centres have participated in the validation process of the new project by General Electric in paediatric patients. Cos Clinical Head of the Paediatric Cardiology service at Vall d'Hebron, Dr. Ferran Rosés, stressed that the new equipment "incorporates a new technology that represents a major leap forward in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital cardiopathies, while offering a innovative design completely portable with touch screen". The fact that General Electric has confided in Vall d'Hebron, for its design and evaluation, confirms, according to Dr. Rosés, that the centre is an international benchmark.
