Vall d'Hebron presents the Best Catalan Health Innovation Projects

On the 10th of July we will know what projects win in the research and in healthcare fields

The Innovation Contest that Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) has organised in collaboration with "http://accio.gencat.cat/cat/" ACCIÓ and "http://www.roche.es/" Roche has been a success. Last year, its first edition already had a massive involvement, but the organisation decided to open the c ontest to all the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS) hospitals and Catalan research centres accredited by the Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII) and the Medical Technology Innovation Platform (ITEMAS) in this year edition, which has a greater participation. Since its beginnings on 12th March, 67 projects have been presented, 44 derived from healthcare practice and 23 from biomedical research. The names of the winners of the two categories would be announced this Friday 10th of July. The projects, in which 234 professionals, 173 healthcare workers and 93 biomedical research had taken part, come from 13 hospitals and 22 research centres, universities and foundations, which reveals that it has had a great involvement and a wide provenances variety. The VHIR Innovation Contest has become the Catalan Innovation Contest. To make it possible, it has been key the collaboration of 33 health-related companies and 8 public institutions that support the project. It will be announced the 10 finalists of each category as well as the first and second awards of 5,000 and 2,500 € respectively on the 10th of July. Besides, during the event there will be roundtables, innovation world discussions and a networking with companies, investors and contest project’s authors. UAB 6- Pushing Myc inhibition to the clinic using cell penetrating peptides. Laura Soucek, Principal Investigator of the Mouse Models of Cancer Therapies group. VHIO 7- Cardiopatch: Digital Bio-patches for monitoring newborns with congenital heart diseases. Ferran Rosés, Head of the pediatric cardiology unit, HUVH. Xavier Muñoz, Director of Biomems, CNM-CSIC. 8- Development of a microfluidic chip for the early diagnosis of Malaria. Adrián Sánchez Montalvá, Specialist in infectious diseases. HUVH 9- Gene Therapy for MNGIE using a new orphan drug consisting of an adeno-associated vector carrying. Javier Torres, Post-doctoral researcher in the mitochondrial and neuromuscular diseases group. VHIR 10- Use of a specific assay for the quantification of Apo J-Glycosylated levels for the early detection and risk stratification of patients with acute myocardial infarction.
