Every year, only 5% of the cases that are proposed are selected and this is the first time that Vall d'Hebron has been chosen.

A collaborative work between different teams from the Neurodegenerative Diseases group at Vall d'Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) has been presented at the https://www.mdscongress.org/Congress-2020.htm International Congress of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting, which is the most important event to discuss about these diseases worldwide, was held virtually between September 12 and 16.Vall d'Hebron participation in the congress consisted of the presentation of a clinical case of a patient from Vall d'Hebron University Hospital in the MDS Video Challenge. This session, which attracts the largest audience in the congress, includes complicated cases where an expert from another center tries to find out the patient's diagnosis based on their symptoms and evolution. Usually, more than 1000 proposals are presented every year, but only 20 of them are presented at the congress. This is the first time that a Vall d'Hebron proposal has been chosen.Sara Lucas-Del Pozo, a pre-doctoral researcher in the Neurodegenerative Diseases group at VHIR, was in charge of presenting the case of a patient diagnosed with a minor neurometabolic disease. It was a complicated case that required a multidisciplinary approach by several VHIR teams. The session was moderated by Dr. Anthony Lang, from University of Toronto, and R. Kapil Sethi, from Augusta University, Georgia (USA). Dr. Jennifer Friedman, from the Department of Neuroscience and Pediatrics at the University of California, participated in the debate, providing possible diagnoses for the case that was presented. After learning the actual diagnosis, Dr. Manju Kurian, from the Neurogenetics Group and the Department of Neurology at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, presented a literature review on the disease and highlighted the peculiarities of the case. All cases presented in the MDS Video Challenge will be published soon in Movement Disorders journal.
