VHIR activities on occasion of the World Ovarian Cancer Day

Researchers of the Gynecology group, have prepared a set of proposals to raise funds for ovarian cancer research.

Researchers of the Gynecology group at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), led by Dr. Antonio Gil, have prepared a set of proposals to raise funds for ovarian cancer research. The activities, also focused on the outreach of the disease, will take place around World Ovary Cancer Day, celebrated on 8 May.Ovarian cancer accounts for 5% of all cancers in women. Each year about 3,300 cases are diagnosed in Spain, and many of them in an advanced stage because it is a disease that virtually has no symptoms and do not have diagnostic markers to be detected early.The Vall d'Hebron Campus specializes in fighting ovarian cancer, both in the health care setting and in research. To explain the multidisciplinary approach they do, and raise funds for research into new methods of early detection, VHIR researchers have organized the following activities: Scientific and informative dayOrganized jointly with the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital and Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), it will involve professionals from Vall d'Hebron Campus, primary care and patient representatives. The current state of research and assistance in this area will be reviewed, and stress the importance of treating patients affected by this disease in multidisciplinary referral centres, such as Vall d'Hebron, with the aim of improve the prognosis.The day will take place on May 4th from 9am to 12:30pm in the auditorium of the Cellex building. Sale of signature bread with chocolate.For the third consecutive year, the master baker Daniel Jordà will create a bread to celebrate World Day of Ovarian Cancer and raise funds for research. On this occasion, he has joined the prestigious chocolatier David Pallàs, to make 4,000 signature breads with chocolate for solidarity.Bread with chocolate will be sold at the scientific meeting of May 4, 5 and 6 May in Arcasa cafeterias at Vall d'Hebron Campus, and on May 7 in the markets Vall d'Hebron, Boqueria, Santa Caterina the Llibertat, Abaceria Central, Sant Gervasi and Concepció.The activity has the support of various Catalan gastrobloggers, who will participate in the sale, and Fundació Els 3 Turons, which will help with the packaging. Solidarity blues concertThe band of blues, funk and rock Mancuso will perform on May 25 at 9:30pm in the Sala Luz de Gas. Formed in 2013, almost all its members met at the Escola Taller Blues of Barcelona. Most of its members are musicians with experience in other musical genres so diverse as rock, blues, swing, pop and ska. The informative activity shall be accompanied by the sale of signature bread with chocolate, pins and bracelets.
