Together, information sheets on sepsis and on the association are being developed to make it available to patients and relatives of the UCI. In these sheets, there will be information about sepsis and what they should do if they want to be part of the association. The activity is supported by the Catalan Society of Intensive Medicine. The association Aturem la sepsia was born in the hands of the parents of a surviving patient of the disease that was treated at the service of Intensive Medicine at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital. They created the association with the main objective of organizing activities to raise funds to help in the search of sepsis, and for spreading and teaching about the disease.SepticemiaSepticemia, or sepsis, occurs when the patient suffers from a serious infection and the reaction of the immune system causes a multiorgan failure. "It is a disease with a high prevalence and mortality. Every year, in Catalonia more than 24,000 cases are diagnosed and is the cause of death of more than 4,000 people. Is therefore a health problem of great magnitude", says Dr. Juan Carlos Ruiz, of the Intensive Medicine Service at Vall d'Hebron is the Vice President of the Association. In Vall d'Hebron, to deal with it, there is the Sepsis Code, in which they work together the professionals of the Intensive Medicine, Emergency and Microbiology Services. The Vall d'Hebron Campus, through the Group of Shock, Organic Dysfunction and Resuscitation at VHIR, led by Dr. Ricard Ferrer, leads the research in this field. Together with the VHIR Microbiology research group, it has the first state bank and the second of Europe specific for sepsis. Its main objective is to find biomarkers that allow us to improve the diagnostic and prognosis of this pathology. Twitter LinkedIn Facebook Whatsapp
