Visitors to the festival of architecture will see laboratories and the UAT, and other buildings of the Vall d'Hebron Campus.

How can architecture help to improve people's lives? The Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus is one of the entities involved in the 48H Open House Barcelona festival. From 22 to 23 October, visitors will have the opportunity to see the laboratories of the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), the great views of Barcelona from the roof of the Hospital General Vall d'Hebron, the building of the Multiple Sclerosis Center of Catalonia (Cemcat) and the new surgical block of the Hospital. The festival of architecture celebrates its 7th edition in order to show the historical and social aspect of some buildings in the city. In this sense, the Vall d'Hebron Campus combines a set of buildings constructed more than 60 years ago, with more new ones as the Cemcat, designed to offer the best service and mobility to patients with multiple sclerosis. The visit of the VHIR will be in the Mediterranean building, which prior to locate laboratories, was the warehouse of the hospital where the wine which was served to patients was kept! According to the schedule of the route, the visit of VHIR will include a workshop in the high-tech unit or in the laboratory of Pulmonology. In the first workshop you will see the difference between the lung capacity of a smoker person with an non-smoker or passive smoker, and see, for example, what is the effect of exposure to asbestos. The route of the VHIR will be combined with a visit to the new surgical block of the hospital, recently opened. This route required pre-registration, and the route is already fully booked. However, the route of the terrace of the hospital and the Cemcat will be open to everyone, in order of arrival. The circuit starts every 45 minutes in the lobby of the Vall d'Hebron General Hospital on Saturday from 11am to 12:30am and from 3pm to 4:30pm, and on Sunday from 11am to 1:15pm. So don't hesitate, take advantage of this unique opportunity to see the hospital from another perspective!
