Topics such as big data, artificial intelligence and process automation are very basic aspects for a hospital innovation. On the other hand, VHIR's Innovation Unit served as an example of excellence model, by reviewing the types of projects managed by the Institute, its ecosystems, and the Open Innovation concept among others.Among the most important topics, stand out the processes for technologic transfer, the evolution from an idea to a product through its valorization and technology commercialization. The industrial and intellectual property was another important chapter on which the students could learn different ways to reach legal protection, and the needed criteria to obtain a patent, through practicing the patent's research tool. The course also offered a general view to the different types of contracts and licenses, including the confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, license contracts (methodology, exploitation rights, exclusivity conditions, income distribution and royalties, etc.) and the agreements on joint development. Finally, the students could also get to know the spin-off scene and had the change to assist to a conversation between Dr. Josep Antoni Ramos Quiroga, main researcher at the Psychiatry, Addictions and Mental Health research group of VHIR, and Dr. Miguel Chillón, Head of the research group on Gene Therapy at Nervous System of VHIR.This course has been developed within the frame of the MiND project, coordinated by Dr. Ramos Quiroga, and has been funded by the research and innovation project Horizon 2020 of European Union, under Marie Sklodowska-Curie No643051 funding agreement. It is expected to host a second edition of the course next year.
