Dr Jesus Castro, coordinator of chronic fatigue syndrome core lab into Systemic Diseases Group at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) has participated in the first kick-off meeting of the first European Network for the chronic fatigue syndrome / myalgic encephalomyelitis http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/ca/CA15111" (EUROMENE) held on April 21 in Brussels, Belgium. Dr Castro and Dr Jose Alegre are the Spanish representatives leaders of this network composed of physicians and biomedical researchers, in which 11 countries participate.The EUROMENE Consortium is a new action of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST Action) program, financed by the Horizon 2020. Its main objective is to meet the challenges arising from research in ignorance of the etiology and pathogenesis of chronic fatigue, clinical variability, lack of diagnostic biomarkers and limited treatment options available for these patients.Despite progress in the last 10 years, research of CFS/ME in Europe is dispersed in centers specialized in immunology, biochemistry and few hospitals in which the research groups in this field are not yet coordinated. In this context, it emerges to promote coordination and translational approach between working groups in CFS/ME across Europe that could help better understand the triggering mechanisms, pathophysiology and comorbidities of this condition. Also, EUROMENE aims to establish practice guidelines for diagnosis and treatment, epidemiology and illness burden through Europe.In this first kick-off meeting of EUROMENE Consortium, researchers laid the foundation for the appointment and coordinating the researchers included in 6 working groups focused on the creation of a database with information about epidemiology, novel biomarkers, socioeconomic burden, clinical and environmental assessment and diagnostic case criteria, conferences and seminars to disseminate the results achieved through the objectives and activities approved proposals.For the fourteenth consecutive year, the http://www.vhir.org/portal1/seminari.asp?contentid=187197&s=activitats&t=XIV%20%20Jornada%20%20de%20avances%20en%20el%20S%EDndrome%20de%20Fatiga%20Cr%F3nica" 14th CFS/ME Research and Clinical Annual Conference will take place on 11-12 May 2016, at the Auditorium of the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona. The event, considered as national reference, will feature leading specialists to explain relevant and highlighted issues in the pathogenesis and quality of life of CFS/ME patients. At the end of the meeting will be presented the EUROMENE project.
