People can contribute to biomedical research in several ways

“Every minute is important in research, and every passed minute, we are closer to help saving a life”. With this message starts VHIR’s initiative of microfundraising, presented this Thursday by the director of the institute, Dr. Joan X. Comella. The website "http://www.faigrecerca.org" faigrecerca offers the possibility of supporting every minute of the biomedical research done at Vall d’Hebron, which has been estimated in 11 euros per minute. Everybody interested can contribute in several ways: it is possible to become a ‘VHIR’s friend’ with a regular donation, to make a single donation, to leave a supportive legacy, or to collaborate with your time, organizing fundraising activities to support biomedical research and improve healthcare. However, those interested in a particular research group, doctor or project, can also contribute directly to them through this website. As Dr. Comella said, this project “wants to bring VHIR's research to patients, friends and healthcare system users”.In a meeting with journalists, VHIR’s director has made a positive year’s balance, highlighting the increase of research projects, impact factor and knowledge transfer. As regards to the future, he has outlined the agreements signed with Sanofi, Pfizer and Roche, and the negotiations with leading industries for clinical trials. Finally, Dr. Comella has defended the need of internationalizing even more the research in Catalonia, and has appealed authorities to keep public science calls for preserving and increasing the international credibility of Catalan Research.
