28/11/2017 VHIR receives a donation from the Catalan Association in Primary Immune Dysfunctions (ACADIP), based on the project “I have an IDP, I am not alone” 28/11/2017 The donation results from the joint work of ACADIP and VHIR, in collaboration with BCN-PID Foundation. http://acadip.org/" ACADIP and the http://www.pidfoundationbcn.org/" BCN-PID Foundation have signed a donation agreement of 45.815 euros to Vall d'Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR), to support the minors that suffer an immunodepression with infection, under the frame of the initiative "I have an PID, I am not alone".The project is being developed by the Research group in http://en.vhir.org/portal1/grup-presentacio.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186976&idrefer=186977 Infection in Immunocompromised Pediatric Patients, European referent in the research and knowledge of this disease, and lead by the Dr. Pere Soler Palacín.The initiative "I have a PID, I am not alone" has promoted the collaboration since 2013 between VHIR and ACADIP, with BCN-PID Foundation joining in 2015. Both entities base their work on the support of patients (minors) diagnosed with primary immunodeficiencies, and collaborate with the scientific community's research, education, and psychosocial assistance of the patients and their relatives, in order to improve the comprehensive care and life quality they require.By this means, the agreement signed today will not only promote the research's development, but will ensure its psychosocial application through hiring a psychologist focused on supporting both the pediatric patients and their relatives. The Primary Pediatric ImmunodeficiencyThe PID results from a congenital defect (therefore, a chronic disease) that disturbs several mechanisms involved in the immune system's response, making the patient vulnerable to suffer allergies, self-immune diseases or several infections that, if not receiving the appropriate treatment, can lead to permanent sequels or fatal consequences. This fate leads in several cases to medical controls and hospital treatments that, besides the physical effect, have a big psychological and social effect on the patients and their relatives.Nowadays, the PID affects 1 of every 2.000 babies, being the 40% of patients: adults.
