This year has been dedicated to pediatric research and has focused on two aspects of maximum news: obesity and minority diseases.

This morning, the Centre Tarraconense El Seminari hosted the 11th Research Day organized by the Catalan Health Institute in which several researchers from the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) participated. This year, it has been dedicated to pediatric research. The Conference focused on two aspects of maximum news: obesity and minority diseases. In the first case, is a serious problem that achieves epidemic characteristics, At the opposite end, regarding the number of people affected, we find the second, since they are diseases with very little incidence and, consequently, with the risk of oblivion due to ignorance. In the round table on minority illnesses in pediatrics, moderated by Dr. Guillem Pintos, Clinical Director of Minority Diseases of Vall d'Hebron, has participated several VHIR researchers: Sandra Rovira Amigo of the http://www.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip2.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186855 Growth and Development group who spoke about the molecular characterization of primary ciliary discinesia. Jesús Quintero Bernabéu, from the group of http://en.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=187002&t=Transplantaments%20Digestius Digestive Transplants, on the transplantation of hepatocytes in congenital metabolism errors. Manuel López Paredes, head of the http://en.vhir.org/web_vhir/portal1/grup-equip.asp?t=cibbim-nanomedicina-bioenginyeria-terapia-cel%B7lular-i-cirurgia-en-malformacions-congenites&s=recerca&contentid=187172 CIBBIM-Nanomedicine group. Bioengineering, Cell Therapy and Surgery in Congenital Malformations, spoke of the non-surgical manipulation of the thoracic wall. Raquel Hladun is part of the http://en.vhir.org/web_vhir/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186749 Translational Research in Child and Adolescent Cancer and has explained the case of personalized medication: a new challenge in the treatment of pediatric cancer. Finally, Eduard Sarró Tauler, from the http://en.vhir.org/web_vhir/portal1/grup-presentacio.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186828&idrefer=186829 CIBBIM-Nanomedicine. Kidney Physiopathology has talked about new goals and therapeutic solution to prevent kidney disease in Dent disease. To talk about the role of associations of patients as promoters of the research, Eva Giménez, president of the Asdent Association, who has collaborated for years with the VHIR helping to finance a line of research in this disease that affects your child.During the Research Day, different prizes were awarded: to the young researcher in the ICS hospitals, to the nursing research career of the ICS, to the best research article on health sciences elaborated by a predoctoral researcher from the ICS and the related research institutes, to the best research article in health sciences drawn up by a professional of the residents' program and to the best poster of the Research Day of the ICS.The Research Institutes of the Catalan Health Institute (ICS) are a great opportunity to publicize the research being carried out in its research institutes and to create a space for communication and exchange of experiences from the beginning of the various round tables and posters presented there.Pediatrics encompasses all periods of human development: from conception (and even before, considering planning and genetic counseling) to the beginning of adulthood. What happens to a person during this period has a direct and indelible repercussion for the rest of his life. You can only become a healthy adult, in the global sense of the word, if you have reached that age in the right conditions.Pediatric research is complex, It often requires involvement of families, collaboration and it is done, in the majority of the cases, in healthy patients. Research networks shared between centers are fundamental, as they allow multicentre clinical trials, transnational research, to be able to add patients with rare diseases, Shared experiences, and a broad debate on preliminary results. Despite the difficulties it is essential, because, as the theme of this 11th Research Day of the ICS says, "The research of the present in paediatrics to guarantee a good future".
