Dr. Clara Franco and Dr. Jacques Rivière, specialist doctors at Vall d'Hebron and researchers at VHIR, have been recognized for their research activity in Primary Immunodeficiencies at ESID

Within the framework of the 18th Biennial Congress of the European Society of Immunodeficiencies (ESID) held in Lisbon from October 24 to 27, Dr. Clara Franco and Dr. Jacques Rivière, specialist doctors at Vall d'Hebron Hospital and researchers at VHIR, have been recognized for their research activity in Primary Immunodeficiencies (PID).Dra. Clara Franco, an immunology specialist, responsible for the areas of Histocompatibility, Cytokines Studies and Advanced Studies in the Diagnosis of Primary Immunodeficiencies at the Immunology service of Vall d'Hebron Hospital and researcher at the http://en.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=187051 Diagnostic Immunology research Group at VHIR, has been selected as the Chairperson of young ESID immunologists (ESID Juniors Working Party) out of five candidates for her dedication to Primary Immunodeficiencies. The ESID Juniors Working Party, one of the seven ESID working groups, is an interactive forum for young immunologists, clinicians and researchers which aims to give voice to issues concerning students and young professionals in this field and to provide them an opportunity to learn and network with each other as well as with established researchers and professionals. The ESID Juniors Working Party is part of the ESID board and also participates in the organization of the ESID Summer school and of the ESID Congress Educational day. The Chairperson is elected by electronic voting every four years, so during this period Dra. Franco will be part of ESID. This fact, apart from being a recognition to her work, represents a major boost for the PID project on the Campus. The European Society for immunodeficiencies (ESID) is a non for profit association created in 1994 aimed at improving the knowledge in the field of Primary Immunodeficiency by encouraging research, developing educational programs and fostering cooperation among all those involved in the diagnosis, treatment and management of these diseases. As the leading society in the field, ESID is committed to promote collaboration between healthcare professionals, patient organizations, industry and governmental bodies and to foster education and research. On the other hand, Dr. Jacques Rivière, associate pediatrician at the Infectious Pathology and Pediatric Immunodeficiencies Unit of the Vall d'Hebron Paediatrics Service and researcher at the http://www.vhir.org/portal1/grup-equip.asp?s=recerca&contentid=186977 Infection in Immunocompromised Pediatric Patients group at VHIR, has received the award for the best e-poster in diagnosis for the PIDCAP project at the same Congress. The PIDCAP project is a pioneering and collaborative program between primary and hospital care for the early diagnosis of primary immunodeficiencies, using the usual pediatrician or family physician consultation and the ECAP Primary Care clinical station software. The project uses warning signs validated by international and local experts for the early detection of PIDIDPs, thanks to a computer algorithm. This is a project awarded by Innobics, the open innovation program of the ICS and finalist of the first edition of Jo Innovo, an initiative of Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus to promote innovation among all its workers. The implementation of this project will provide a new innovative tool for primary care physicians, both pediatricians and family doctors, for the early diagnosis of rare diseases and will allow comprehensive care for the patient at risk of having a PID in the network of primary care centers. It will also allow to reduce the diagnosis delay usually associated with rare diseases and, therefore, their consequences.Currently, the project is in its pilot phase and is being applied to CAP El Carmel, San Rafael and Casernes, all of them from the SAP Muntanya region and with a reference population close to the 100,000 inhabitants between adults and children. Once their results are validated, the idea is to apply it progressively to the rest of the CAPs in the country.
