31/08/2010 VHIR stands out in an h index ranking 31/08/2010 Researchers of Vall Hebron Institute de Recerca (VHIR) occupy a prominent position in a ranking that publishes a list of the best Spanish researchers according the h index. It consists on a method that evaluates the impact of scientific research in different areas of knowledge. According to the study, that can be found at "http://indice-h.webcindario.com" http://indice-h.webcindario.com, the ranking of experts is arranged taking in account h index, and is extracted from the information revealed by the ISI Web of Science, and are updated periodically. Two researchers from Vall d’Hebron are on the top of their own specific areas. Dr Joseph Baselga (h index 64) leads the called 'oncology' area, while Dr. Jordi Rello ( h index 44) leads the 'critical care' one. Dr. Joan Ramon Malagelada is the VHIR researcher with the highest h index, 72, and occupies the second place in 'Gastroenterology & hepatology' area. There are other researchers that stand out in the ranking: Dr Joan Montaner from neurovascular laboratory (h index 33) and Dr. Garcia Dorado ( h index 29) and Dr Gaietà Permanyer (h index 30), both of them from 'Cardiac and cardiovascular system' area. The h factor assigns to each expert the number of papers of which is an author with the same or more citations than the index. That is, if a scientist has an h factor = 30, means has thirty papers that at least have been cited thirty times in scientific literature.
