VHIR stands out in the research awards of La Marató 2011

6 awarded projects endowed with a global amount of 1.8 million Euros, of which 990 thousand will be for VHIR

29 projects of biomedical research on regeneration and transplant of organs and tissues have received 8 million Euros from the Foundation of 'La Marató', the show of TV3. The 56 researchers who will work with the projects received the award in an event celebrated in the Universitat of Barcelona on November 5. Among the research centers that will receive funding stands out the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), with 6 awarded projects endowed with a global amount of 1.8 million Euros, of which 990 thousand will be for VHIR.VHIR will coordinate 5 projects and will take part in a sixth. Dr. Màrius Aguirre Canyadell, member of the Bioengineering, orthopedics and surgery in pediatrics group, will coordinate the project 'Femoral head osteonecrosis treatment with advanced cell therapy and biomaterials in an experimental sheep animal model', endowed with 299.951 Euros, of which 200.000 will be for VHIR.Dr. Josep García Arumí, head of the research group in ophthalmology, will coordinate the project 'Transplantation of RPE and photoreceptor derived from embrionic and iPSC cell as a treatmento to Retinitis Pigmentosa', endowed with 300.000 Euros, of which 200.000 will be for VHIR.Dr. David García-Dorado, head of cardiocirculatory pathology, will coordinate the project 'Targeting inflammation to improve heart repair and regeneration', endowed with 300.000 Euros, of which 150.000 will be for VHIR. Dr. Marisol Ruiz Meana and Dr. Javier Inserte received the award in name of the VHIR.Dr. Xavier Montalban, head of the clinical neuroimmunology group, will coordinate the project 'Regenerating myelin in multiple sclerosis: search of therapies that favour remyelination based on genomic-signatures of neural stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells differentiated to oligodendrocytes', with an endowment of 300.000 Euros, 200.000 of which are for VHIR.Dr. Joan Sahuquillo, head of the Neurotraumatology and neurosurgery unit UNINN), will coordinate the project 'Brain repair after stroke: Magnetic field-mediated stem cell migration', endowed with 305.675 Euros, of which 101.222 will be for VHIR.Dr. Miquel Vila, head of the neurodegenerative diseases group, participates in the project 'Regenerating dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson’s disease via cell fusion-mediated reprogramming', that coordinates Dr. Maria Pia Cosma from CRG, endowed with 300.000 Euros, with 138.750 Euros for VHIR. Dr. Jordi Bové received the prize in representation of VHIR.
