07/01/2011 VHIR works with an innovative project that extends the application of pulse oximetry 07/01/2011 The team of Jordi Rello, head of the ICU department at Vall d'Hebron Hospital and reponsible of the Intensive Medicine group at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR), together with Juan Carlos Ruiz, member of the of Shock, Organ Dysfunction and Resuscitation group (SODIR) at VHIR and attending doctor of the ICU at Vall d'Hebron, collaborate with the company Sabirmedical on a project funded by the venture capital firm Ysios Capital Partners in transfer of technology. This team is working on an innovation project to extend the applications that can take the pulse oximeter, a thimble that measures blood oxygen saturation. The new project, part of VHIR innovation projects, will allow non-invasively measure blood pressure and respiratory function without the need for aggressive monitoring procedures. Patients gain in safety and avoid punctures, increasing comfort.
