Dr. Joan Comella stresses the increase in clinical trials at Vall d’Hebron

20 minutos has interviewed VHIR’s director, Dr. Joan Comella, to talk about how cuts slow down research.Despite the excellent research done at Catalonia, Dr. Comella alerts that “in 2013 things could be worse if the Spanish government continues cutting public funds”. In 2011, public contributions were reduced in a 20 per cent, and 2012 calls will be published during the following months. However, the newspaper stresses that VHIR closed last year with revolutionary discoveries, such as the use of a pessary to reduce premature births. In this context, the report talks about the role of microdonations in research and mentions VHIR’s site “ "www.yoinvestigo.org" yoinvestigo.org”.Finally, the article stresses the increase of the 14 per cent of clinical trials at VHIR, despite the generalized fall of clinical trials in Catalonia. An increase, that according Dr. Comella, is caused because pharmaceutical companies are concentrating clinical trials in the most competitive centers.
