24/12/2010 VHIR's publication wins Biogen Idec Foundation Award 24/12/2010 A work presented by Olga Tornavaca, from the group CIBBIM - Nanomedicine Kidney physiopathology at Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR) has won in the cardiovascular area the 5th award of the Biogen Idec Foundation for young Spanish researchers. The work, entitled "Kidney Androgen-Regulated Protein Transgenic Mice Show Hypertension and Renal Alterations Mediated by Oxidative Stress" and published in Circulation in April 2009, has been recognized by "using a transgenic mouse model, establish for the first time the role of protein 'Kidney androgen-regulated protein' (KAP) in hypertension, a highly relevant health problem in developed countries, demonstrating that its mechanism of action involves oxidative stress and, as KAP is regulated by androgens, shed light on the molecular mechanisms that determine gender differences in the development of hypertension."Rewarded with 15,000 euros, the event took place in the central offices of CSIC.
