14/03/2012 VHIR'S UNINN participates in the Week of the Brain 14/03/2012 The Neurotraumatology and neurosurgery research group (UNINN) of Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) has participated on March 14 in the Week of the Brain 2012 with the activity 'Live closely the problem: know the reasons and talk with the patient, traffic accidents and cranial traumatism, reasons and consequences', that has taken place in the area of Traumatology of Vall d'Hebron University Hospital.The traffic accidents, and as consequence the cranial traumatism (CT) is considered to be the silent epidemic of the third millenium that affects fundamentally the young people. It is well-known that there is a direct relation between the traffic accidents and alcohol. The sequels can be terrible, for the own person and for all the familiar environment. In this activity it has been explained the epidemiology of the cerebral traumatic injuries and the mechanisms that produce these cerebral injuries. Also they have discussed which are the most frequent harmful mechanisms and the most affected population and it has been studied what happens in the acute of an injured, what symptoms these patients present initially and how they recover of the serious brain injuries. In addition the activity treated the serious social and familiar consequences of these types of injuries.
