The course has been celebrated the 3rd and 4th of December

The days 3rd and 4th of December, more than one hundred worldwide specialists have met at Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron to update knowledge and share experiences in NOTES (natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery). The program has been based on interesting presentations and complemented with practice sessions at the surgeries. The course has been led by Dr. José Ramón Armengol-Miró, Manuel Armengol and Antonio J. Torres García. NOTES is a technique that consists on using natural orifices of the body to realize certain operations without incisions or extern scars, and without undergoing conventional surgery or laparoscopy. It is also a technique that enables a shorter postoperative period, less pain for the patient, and more precision and control in the treatment. WIDER-Barcelona was created in 2008 as an agreement with Vall d’Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Obra Social ‘la Caixa’, with the aim to promote a minimally invasive surgery. During these years, the center has positioned as a worldwide referent in its field and it is an example of how research can be applied to the clinical practice.
