Jordi Riera del Brío

I am a specialist doctor in intensive care medicine. My priority is to achieve excellence in three areas: patient care, resident training, and research. I am a reference in ECMO, a resident tutor, and a researcher in the area of respiratory pathology of the critical patient, especially in ECMO and lung transplantation, which is the subject of my thesis (which received an extraordinary award) and the subject of the ACITRA project, of which I am co-PI and which has received FIS (ISCIII) funding.

Graduated in medicine since 2004 and specialist in intensive medicine since 2010. Doctorate in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona with thesis defense in November 2015 (cum laude and with extraordinary award). I have been a tutor for intensive medicine residents since February 2013. I am responsible for the ECMO program in adult patients and a member of the working group on lung transplantation. I am a research member of the Research Institute (VHIR) and node 18 CIBERES (ISCIII). Additionally, I have been a cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor since 2010.

RESEARCH ACTIVITY:

I collaborated on the FIS research project (file PI11 / 01122) that enabled the publication of an original article in a first quartile journal on transplantation (AJT 2016). This article, along with the original published in a reference journal in the area of pulmonology (ERJ 2015), was part of my thesis. I also participated in the development of a second project with FIS funding (PI14 / 01296). Recently, I designed the ACITRA research project, which has received FIS funding (PI17/01485), where I am the co-PI of the project. I received a FUCAP scholarship and CIBERES support for a stay at the Lung Transplantation Area of Hannover Medical School. I am currently also participating in research projects in ECMO.

TEACHING ACTIVITY:

Tutor for intensive medicine residents since February 2013. I have participated, as an organizer or teacher, in more than 40 cardiopulmonary resuscitation courses since my third year of residency. I have participated as a teacher in more than 10 courses related to respiratory pathology of critically ill patients, aimed at biology students (VHIR Master's) and physiotherapy (UAB degree), as well as residents of various specialties, nursing, and physicians.

CLINICAL ACTIVITY:

It is worth highlighting my role as the person responsible for the ECMO technique in adults at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. For this, I have done stays at European reference centers for the technique and have completed various training courses. I also maintain an active role in the lung transplantation group.
