Silvia Alemany Sierra

I am psychologist with experience in the fields of Psychiatric Genetics and Environmental Epidemiology. I have experience analyzing several environmental factors such as child maltreatment, paracetamol use during pregnancy, or air pollution. I analyze the genetic basis of complex traits and diseases such as cognition or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) using different methodologies such as polygenic risk scores, genome-wide and epigenome-wide association studies. I am very interested in understanding gene-environment relationships and interactions.

Graduated in Psychology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) in 2006 and Master in Human Biology from the University of Barcelona (UB) in 2007. I have a PhD in Biodiversity from the UB in 2013, and I obtained the Extraordinary Doctorate Award from the Faculty of Biology. In 2014 I joined the group led by Dr. Jordi Sunyer at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) as a postdoctoral researcher. I have enjoyed competitive pre-doctoral (PFIS, Carlos III Health Institute) and post-doctoral (Sara Borell, Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación) fellowships. I collaborate with international consortia such as Pregnancy And Childhood Epigenetics (PACE) and Early Genetics and Lifecourse Epidemiology (EAGLE). In 2020 I joined the team led by Dr. Marta Ribasés and Dr. Toni Ramos-Quiroga. In 2022 I got a Miguel Servet contract from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III. My main line of research focuses on the study of genetic and environmental risk factors and their interaction in mental health.
