Catalan patient associations have recognized the Rare Diseases Unit of Vall d'Hebron, led by Dr. Eduardo Tizzano.

Today, 29th of February is the Rare Diseases Day. The rare diseases platform, that have organized the activities of this day in Catalonia, has awarded the Rare Diseases Unit, created recently at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. This unit, led by Dr. Eduardo Tizzano, director of the Clinical Genetics Area and head of the Genetics Medicine group at Vall d'Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR), was designed with the aim to develop a new model of patient care for those who suffer any of the over 7,000 pathologies considered as 'rare' (with less than 5 cases out of 10,000 people).The fight against rare diseases is one of VHIR's pillars, where nearly 200 of these diseases are investigated, from 26 different clinical areas. Doctors, predoc and postdoc researchers, nurses and technical staff make a total of more than 350 professionals that dedicate part of their day by day to move forward in the knowledge of these diseases and to find treatments to increase quality of life of patients.http://www.genial.ly/View/Index/56ceb87b1561e80350165325 In this presentation, we give you more information about research in rare diseases at VHIR.
