VHIR researchers talk about the current situation of research in ALS

Dr. Gamez and Dr. Salvadó are giving lectures on this neuromuscular disease

On the occasion of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) World Day on the next 21st July, researchers from Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca (VHIR) have joined the world campaign to emphasize the importance of research against this rare severe neuromuscular disease.Dr. Josep Gamez, responsible of the Peripheral Nervous System of VHIR, and Dr. Maria Salvadó, from the same laboratory, have started a conference programme addressed to patients, family and people interested, in order to make public the disease and to inform about the current situation of its diagnostic and research.Next talk will be held on Thursday, 20th June at 7 pm at the Biblioteca Popular in Sant Adrià del Besòs, titled ‘ALS, a neuromuscular disease approach’. In the last talk, held in Manresa on the past June 15th, researchers from VHIR explained the social and economical impact of the disease, and the important advances that have occured in the last decade for its knowledge, thanks to research.According to data collected by the "http://sites.adelaweb.com/web-adela/" Spanish Association of Patients with ALS (ADELA), nearly 900 cases of the disease without treatment are diagnosed every year in the whole country.
