I have a degree in Medicine and Surgery and specialist in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care. I finished my PhD in 1998 and, since 1995, I have been working in the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. I am currently head of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and associate professor at the UAB. My research area in perioperative medicine is integrated within the UNINN group, with the aim of exploring strategies for diagnosis, prevention, treatment and/or risk prediction in order to improve the clinical management of patients before, during and after the surgery This line of work focuses particularly on non-cardiac surgery, promoting advances to improve the care, management and recovery of surgical patients.

Since 2005 I coordinate the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of the HUVH and my clinical fields of interest are perioperative medicine and hemodynamic monitoring in the critical patient. I am a member of the Critics Section of the Catalan Society of Anesthesiology (SCARTD) and the Intensive Care Section (SCI) of the Spanish Society of Anesthesiology (SEDAR). I have been an accredited Tutor of the specialty of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (2004-2013) and Member of the Teaching Committee of the Catalan Society of Anesthesiology (2004-2009). I'm an Associate professor in the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine of the UAB and coordinator of the clinical simulation area of the HUVH Teaching Unit. Research lines

Perioperative medicine

General objectives: Postoperative complications increase morbidity and mortality and impact on the patient's quality of life. Our line of research addresses the complex physiological and psychological challenges of surgical patients, emphasising prevention, diagnosis, treatment and risk prediction strategies to optimise patient care before, during and after surgery. This research is primarily aimed at the management and recovery of patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.

Specific objectives: 1) To optimise diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in patients with acute postoperative myocardial injury 2) To acquire new knowledge on perioperative cardiovascular management in patients undergoing major non-cardiac surgery 3) To evaluate the role of cardiac biomarkers in predicting postoperative complications 4) To evaluate the quality of postoperative recovery from the patient's experience.

The goal is to test a low-cost, easy-to-use and non-invasive monitor, which will serve to control intracranial pressure (PICO) values, which will help to control and treat different acute brain pathologies.

The new tool will improve patient care and allow early detection of complications, as the hospital previously did not have a specific form.

Entre els projectes es troben 12 investigacions on participen investigadors i investigadores de Vall d’Hebron.
