In 2000, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Medicine and a PhD in Cardiology (Cum Laude) with a doctoral thesis on Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB).
Between 2002 and 2005, he completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture, focusing on Ischemic Cardiomyopathy and the study of Myocardial Viability at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (UAB).
In 2006, he earned a Diploma in Biostatistics in Health Sciences from the Department of Biostatistics, UAB, followed by a Master’s degree in Biostatistics. In 2012, he received a Master’s Degree in Advanced Cardiology from the Spanish Society of Cardiology, and in 2014, a Master’s Degree in Diagnostic Cardiac Imaging from the same institution.
He has been recognized with several international fellowships:
• FESC (Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology) – Stockholm, 2005
• FASNC (Fellow of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology) – USA, 2006
• FEACVI (Fellow of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging) – France, 2019
• FRSM (Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK) – London, 2021
In 2008, he obtained the European Board Certification in Cardiology.
Between 2020 and 2022, he served as a Judge for the JNC Best Clinical Paper Award (Frans J. Th. Wackers Best Clinical Research Paper Award), granted by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.
He has been an active member of the ESC Working Group on Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac CT since 2010, and a Board Member Editor of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology since 2018. He is also a member of several international scientific societies and serves as a regular reviewer for multiple leading journals in clinical cardiology and cardiovascular imaging. He has accumulated extensive expertise and international recognition in the fields of cardiac synchronization, ventricular remodeling, cardiomyopathies, chronic coronary artery disease, and the development of cardiovascular risk scores for both women and men. He has developed several risk models and indices, including the VHRS-I, VHRS-II, VHRS-ICM, VHRS-SCAR, CORSWO, and PERRS-index. Currently, he is involved in 20 active lines of research, with recent projects focusing on myocardial flow analysis, Chagas heart disease, and myocardial involvement in scleroderma.
