Clinical Biochemistry
It has a long tradition of research in the development of diagnostic methods, translation of research results in clinical diagnosis collaborating with clinical and basic research groups, with lines of research in: optimization of automation and computerization processes, hormones, tumor markers and of Azheimer's Disease, Drug Monitoring and Pharmacogenomics, Lipids. Metabolopathies, Assisted Reproduction and Liver Pathology.
Current main lines of research:
- Analysis and exploitation (Big Data) of millions of annual data produced by the clinical laboratory, to define new quality control systems, more precise and customized reference intervals and detection of disease-associated patterns.
- Discovery of new biomarkers in hepatology (prognosis and fibrosis) and prostate cancer.
- Mass chromatography-spectrometry for the development and validation of methods for measuring biological molecules, trace elements and drugs, especially proteomics methods for the measurement of biomarkers and biological drugs.
- Viral hepatic pathology: studies of viral variability and models of gene therapy.
