For the second consecutive year, the sellers from the local market will raise funds for research projects with the aim to improve people's health.

For the second consecutive year, sellers from the local market will raise funds for research projects with the aim to improve people's health. In this edition, they have tried to reflect the soul of their products, together with the graphic designer Jordi Santamaría.Gyotaku is a printing technique that Japanese fishermen used in the 18th century. They coated with ink the fish and placed it inside a folded sheet of paper, obtaining an accurate reproduction. They did it with two purposes: to show their fishing and prices in the markets and to capture the fish's soul, in order to pay tribute to them and be grateful for feeding them.The 12 months of the 2016 calendar have printings of fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, cheese, meat and fish, using this technique. The calendar is on sale for 1.5 euros at Vall d'Hebron Market and the Communication Unit of VHIR. 1 euro of each calendar will be donated to the predoctoral programme of the Institute.The market sellers would like to increase the sales of last year, when they raised 1,140 euros for research in heart diseases. However, this year they will fund the research carried out by young scientists that will investigate with the aim to diagnose, heal and prevent cancer, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, among others.
