Andrea Guala

Andrea Guala is a post-doc researcher working in Cardiovascular Imaging analysis. After a PhD at the Politecnico of Turin (Italy) about modelling of the heart and large arteries, he moved to the Vall D’Hebron Institute of Research thanks to a Marie-Curie Post-Doctoral grant, starting on May 2016. From 2019 his work is supported by a Juan de la Cierva post-doctoral grant. His main research line relates to the developed of image analysis codes to assess biomarkers from multi-modality cardiovascular images and their evaluation as descriptors of aortic and heart diseases and as predictors of patients’ clinical evolution. As per September 2021, Andrea co-authored 39 peer-review scientific publications. Among them, he was first authors in papers published in the most important journals of cardiology, such the European Heart Journal, Circulation and JACC cardiovascular imaging. During his stay in Barcelona, Andrea’s work has been awarded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Acciones seal of excellence (2017), several travel grants to attend international conferences and a number of conference awards. The study, led by Vall d'Hebron, is the first in Spain to analyse the relationship between pregnancy complications and the risk of long-term cardiovascular diseases.

The consensus document is the result of multidisciplinary work that takes into account the risks associated with all stages of women's lives and the differences compared to men.

The study, which involved Vall d'Hebron, developed an action plan to efficiently allocate resources to patients most at risk of suffering this complication.
