Maria Salvado has worked in the Vall d’Hebron Research Institute and the Neurology Department at Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona since 2012, where his clinical work focuses on treatment of neuromuscular disorders.

She works as a neurologist at the Neuromuscular and Rare Diseases Unit of Vall d'Hebron Hospital and as a researcher in the Peripheral Nervous System Disease Research Laboratory (VHIR), currently led by Dr. R. Juntas-Morales. 
The main lines of this research group are based on the identification of new biomarkers and genetic determinants in familial and sporadic forms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), autoimmune myasthenia gravis (MG), and genetic-based myopathies and neuropathies. She is also one of the professionals in the European Network for Neuromuscular and Rare Diseases (EURO-NMD ERN) and the European Network for rare neurological diseases (ERN-RND). Hospital Vall d’Hebron is member of these ERNs. 
She is co-author of more than 20 peer-reviewed articles and in February 2020, she obtained her PhD title from the Autonomous University of Barcelona for her thesis entitled "Study of genetic factors that influence the familial and sporadic forms of myasthenia gravis autoimmune ”(Teseo, TDX). In 2013, she was awarded the Scientific Poster Award at the International Symposium for ALS (MNDA). 
She is a co-investigator for several grants, research projects and clinical trials, including FIS (Fondo de Investigación Sanitarias) and MINECO (Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad) grants. These grants are for studies of rare neurological diseases such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, familial amyloid polyneuropathy (Corino-Andrade disease), mitochondrial diseases and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP).
