Successful Workshop about presentations in English for scientists

On 18th and 19th May took place at Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) the Workshop 'Presentations in English for scientists' organized by Esteve Foundation. 12 participants, VHIR's researchers, worked under the supervision of Brian McCarthy, trainer, writer and theatre director, with seven years of experience running workshops and coaching people from the field of science. The workshop was practical, fun and inspiring over two days, 16 hours. Day 1 was divided in four modules. The first one was focused on when to make a presentation, core objective, core message and core practice. The second module was for the preparation and brainstorming and breakdown of structure followed by a practical brainstorming. After lunch Module 3 presented designing visuals, strong aesthetics, limit the text, graphs, builds and transitions preparation and brainstorming followed by a practical structuring presentations. The last module of the day was related to making the abstract concrete, storytelling and analogies and making numbers meaningful.Day 2 began with a warm up preparing exercises on voice and gesture, movement and physical presence and eye contact. Finally, the workshop finished with the presentations of the participants after the previous learning. These presentations were of strictly 4 minutes each one plus 4 minutes of feedback respectively recorded on video.
