The Infection and Immunity in pediatric patients research group is a multidisciplinary pediatric research group made up of health professionals involved in translational research in the field of pediatric infectious diseases and immunodeficiencies, two related fields in terms of pathophysiology and clinical implications. It is a consolidated research group recognized by the AGAUR and is the only one with the accreditation of the Jeffrey Modell Foundation in research in the field of primary immunodeficiencies throughout the state.
The group was officially created in 2010, belongs to the area of Infectious Diseases and participates in the transversal programs of Advanced Translational Immunology and Rare Diseases and actively participates in national and international competitive projects, carries out multiple academic and industry-linked clinical trials and has increased the number and quality in recent years. In addition, it has its own laboratory specially dedicated to advanced immune studies.
Study of the immunological and molecular basis of inborn errors of immunity through the characterization of genetic, cellular and functional alterations of the immune system. The aim is to improve diagnosis, understand disease mechanisms and facilitate the development of personalized treatments.

Research into the clinical course and natural history of inborn errors of immunity, analyzing their manifestations, complications and long-term prognosis. Clinical outcomes and responses to treatments are also studied to identify factors associated with better disease outcomes and quality of life.
IP: Jacques Gabriel Rivière
Application of data science tools, computational methods and technological innovation to the study of infectious diseases and immune disorders in pediatrics. Clinical, epidemiological and biological data are used to identify patterns, develop predictive models, and improve clinical decision-making and translational research.
Research aimed at optimizing antimicrobial use in the pediatric population within the framework of antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP). It focuses particularly on interventions designed to improve antimicrobial prescribing, the study of new anti-infective agents in children, and the evaluation of their pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters. The aim is to improve treatment efficacy and safety, reduce adverse effects, and prevent the development of antimicrobial resistance.

The appointments were announced at the society congress, where seven studies from Vall d’Hebron were also presented.
Dr. Natalia Mendoza and Dr. Manuel Analís Bernal have received the Young Researcher and the Best Research Article by a Resident Awards, respectively.
