Parkinson’s Intergenerational Care (PAIR) The PAIR (PArkinson Intergenerational caRe) project is an initiative that since 2024 connects Parkinson's patients with high school students from a disadvantaged neighborhood close to the Vall d’Hebron Campus. Media coverage and public engagement Veure més This project uses an Intergenerational Service and Learning methodology to combat loneliness and social isolation among patients while simultaneously promoting scientific learning and social engagement for the students. The core activities involve students and patients cocreating adapted games and artistic materials, with students also assisting researchers in designing and analyzing questionnaires to evaluate the program's impact on emotional wellbeing and disease outcomes. Ultimately, PAIR aims to be a transformative tool that reduces the stigma associated with neurodegenerative diseases and promotes community equity and inclusion. The PAIR project has engaged over 150 students and multiple groups of people living with Parkinson’s across three editions, contributing to improvements in perceived wellbeing, empathy, and quality of social interactions. Beyond measurables outcomes, one of the project’s most significant impacts lies in the strong bonds that participants develop and the sense of commitment they build over time. Activities are co-created and tailored to the participants’ expertise, allowing participants with Parkinson’s to actively contribute, propose ideas, and even lead group dynamics. This creates a sense of purpose and empowerment. As one participant reflected: “I enjoyed enormously the moments when I could suggest activities and lead exercises with the group, not only for myself, but because I could also see how others felt inspired by seeing one of us being useful and valuable”.Contact: parkinsoncc@vhir.org Vídeos Lead researcher of the project Ariadna Laguna Tuset Investigador/a principal Malalties neurodegeneratives Llegir més
